China’s game on for getting kids out of the classroom—and into deeper modes of critical thinking at home and beyond.

The China Association for Sciences and Technology has just published as five-year plan for improving home learning environments between 2016 and 2020.

The plan is to establish “parent schools” nationally, with presences across kindergartens, primary and middle schools in both urban and rural settings. These home learning environments will be supported by, “online family education information sharing systems.” From creating kids’ home desks to involving parents in goals of kids critical thinking, the hope is that greater communication will foster stronger educational performances.

Education in China’s West

Moreover, educational authorities are reaching out to promote reforms in teachers’ development.

Over 11 agreements were recently reached by the Shanghai Education Commission and 220 pre-university schools throughout western China—encompassing Hubei, Chongqing, Guizhou, Yunnan, Qinghai, Tibet and Xinjiang. These measures will see exchange visits and communications from 16 award winning Shanghai schools to organize textbooks and teaching methods, as well as workshops to enhance teacher training. China’s Ministry of Education has further asked the Shanghai Education Commission to establish more modules such as this for more regions.

What does this equation mean? It means that Chinese parents and students are in for just as many lessons as the kids are.
