Macao Doctors Join Chinese Medical Doctors Association Congress at Great Hall of the People in Beijing

In the spirit medicine, humanity and patriotism, Macao doctors joined the 4th National General Congress of the 3 million-member Chinese Medical Doctors Association (CMDA) at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

The congress coincided with the official China visit of France’s President Macron, and Tianamen Square was filled with the flapping flags of France’s tri-colors under a vibrant, blue January sky.

Supporting Macao was Professor Manson Fok, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST), and Dr. Billy Chan, Director for the Center of Excellence of Professional Medical Development at the Faculty of Health Sciences at MUST.

The Faculty of Health Sciences at MUST has a special medical education skills center that runs CMDA approved courses that have trained many of Macao’s frontline healthcare providers, as well as doctors regionally for several years.

In the Great Hall of the People, Madam Li Bin, Director of the National Health and Family Planning Commission, delivered instructions and remarks from Chinese Vice Premier Liu Yandong. These important remarks allowed for the appointment of Mr. Zhang Yanling as the chairman of the Chinese Medical Doctors Association (CMDA).

Under Dr. Zhang, the CMDA will carry forth with plans coordinating with the National Health and Family Planning Commission and the Ministry of Civil Affairs to enhance medical training and practices for physicians and students across the People’s Republic of China. Key points of this include self-discipline rights, education and training after graduation, as well as education and training for primary doctors, international exchange and cooperation.

During the morning congress session, Jian Qimin, an academician and Vice President of Chinese Physician Association, read a list of congratulatory letters and congratulatory units sent by the former vice chairman of the NPC Standing Committee Jialu.

Moreover, Liu Qian, the former deputy director of the National Health and Family Planning Commission and the President of China Hospital Association, read remarks from the fourth session of the Council of the Chinese Physicians Association.


The morning saw a full medical roster of presenters from the People’s Liberation Army, Central Government, and Chinese academia.

Other VIP speakers included Secretary-General Li Songlin, Deputy Secretary-General Xiai Qilin, Shiliying Jiancheng, Director of the National Social Organization Administration.

Also speaking was Chen Jinguan, Director of the Department of Health of the Central Military Commission and Vice President of the Chinese Medical Association, and party secretary Zhiyi.

Zhang Zongju, Director of the Medical Administration and the Central Party School, and Chen Jiangsheng, Deputy Dean of Marxist College, also spoke.

The National Health Family Planning Committee, the State Administration of Traditional Chinese medicine, the State Social Organization Administration, the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of Health and the Department of Fraternal Studies, more than 20 academician, also had members present at the fourth session.

Since 2011, the Chinese Medical Doctors Association has supported Macao’s Sino-Luso International Medical Forum, led by Professor Manson Fok, as the President, and Dr. Chan as the Vice-President.
